The Mayers Ensemble
The Mayers Ensemble is led by Pauline Mayers, who creates inter-disciplinary shows that exist at the meeting point of dance and theatre.
Originally from London Pauline began her theatre and dance training at the Weekend Arts College and continued with her dance training with the Rambert School in London. Since graduating in 1991 she has danced with and taught for contemporary dance companies and choreographers across the UK including Janet Smith & Dancers (London), Diversions Dance (Cardiff), Phoenix Dance Company (Leeds) and The Ensemble Group (Edinburgh), touring both nationally and internationally.
In recent years she has been exploring work in a theatre-based context. She is an Associate Artist of Chris Goode and Company, choreographing and appearing in several productions, including 9 and The Albermarle Sketchbook (both West Yorkshire Playhouse) and Open House (MayFest, Bristol).
She was the movement director and choreographer for Red Ladder Theatre’s critically acclaimed community production of The Promised Land at The Carriageworks, Leeds. She choreographed Yummm! for Tell Tale Hearts, their first dance theatre show, which has toured nationally and internationally since 2012. She also created site-specific outdoor work Burmantofts Stories with Rommie Smith, musician Simon Beddoe and the local community for West Yorkshire Playhouse.
In collaboration with LittleMighty, Pauline has completed an R&D period exploring her practice with performers Kathryn Beaumont, Akeim Toussaint Buck and Cornelius Geaney Junior, and is now working on a solo piece, What If I Told You?
